Exciting News...

Last day of school 2010

We are leaving for Disney World on Saturday and Alex has officially graduated from Elementary school. I have the paperwork so they can't take it back. We went to her graduation on Monday night. One of the student's grandfather, the last man to walk on the moon, gave the commencement address and it was one of the best speeches I have every heard at a graduation. (The best being the guy who spoke at my middle sister's law school graduation and said, "You're not here to hear me talk, so let's start reading out the names off all these people who want to go home and study for the bar.) The grandfather's speech wasn't quiet that short, but lasted less than 10 minutes and contained wisdom such as, "There is sign in your school that reads, 'The Sky's the Limit!' I want you all to know that the sky is not the limit," and "You are heading towards the best 3 years of your life. Be sure you stop worrying long enough to enjoy it."

On Tuesday I took the day off from work to turn 28 and to celebrate with Alex on her official last day of school. She worked so hard this year and getting to hurl water balloons at her and all her and all of her classmates was a great reward. Its a long standing tradition for the entire neighborhood to take over the streets surrounding the elementary school and attack the graduating fifth graders once the final bell has rung.

EDIT: Its June... 6 months into the year and the original caption to the photos read 2009. Clearly I lost a few brain cells yesterday. Turning 28 has made me slightly senile. And here I thought 28 was too young to start whining about being old. Good to know its not...

Congratulations to Alex! I wish I were there to throw a water balloon at her :)

It was really a lot of fun. Watching the all the dads act like 14 year olds was almost as fun as throwing the balloons at the kids.
