Longhorns, Deer and Wildflowers
Johnson City, Texas
May 31, 2010 by Miki

One way of dividing the world is separating those who are in love with Texas and those who simply put up with it. I often think that I am in the later category until I see pictures like those above, taken by my friend Miki last weekend at her property north of Austin. That's north of Houston. North of the swamp. East of the desert. Smack dab in the middle of the beautiful Hill Country. Nothing says Texas like wildflowers and longhorns. Of course, those wildflowers are also weeds and those longhorns also gored their camper. Ah... me... Texas.

For scenery like this, I could fall in love with Texas. It's simply gorgeous! (And weeds are merely flowers with no pedigree.)

My only issue with these particualar weeds is that they look really pretty. They invite you in. Practically BEG you to frolic in them ala Little House on the Prairie, and yet, they are full of spurs. They have hurtfully pointy things that will scratch up your legs and get stuck on your clothes. Pretty to look at, but don't walk through them.
