Thrid name's a charm....

Tomorrowland Transit Authority
Tomorrowland, Magic Kingdom
Walt Disney World

In an effort to keep my blog readers abreast of all non pressing Walt Disney World news, I think its important to let you all know that the Tomorrowland Transit Authority has been renamed. Again.

Originally named WEDway PeopleMover when the park opened in 1975, this mass urban transport system of the future is a great way to put your feet up and take a spin through Tomorrowland. Its one of my favorite rides to hop on at the end of a long night or in the middle of a hot and crowded afternoon.

As a side note, the original name was a node to WED Enterprises, the company originally founded by Walt (Walter Elias Disney) to oversee the production of Disneyland. In 1984, as part of the massive effort to save the company, WED became Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative arm of the integrated Walt Disney Company.

Anyway... here's a note from Disney regarding the new change:

"The PeopleMover ride system plays an important role in Disney history and heritage and it is for this very reason we have decided to restore its name here in the Magic Kingdom. The name change from Tomorrowland Transit Authority to the TTA PeopleMover is a way fro us to link the past with the present, and in turn, guide us into the future. It is a way for all promise and wonder that the word "PeopleMover" still holds, to carry on into new generations."

So folks, there you have it. We can sleep a little better tonight knowing that the signs in Tomorrowland have already been changed (sorry, no pictures) and the word PeopleMover is being used once again.

I had forgotten about the PeopleMover, and I kind of like the sound of Tomorrowland Transit Authority. I'm guessing it will be back someday though, since these things seem to come in cycles.
