Rolling Over

I have probably said a million things to my daughter that my mother used to say to me, but this morning words popped out of my mouth that had me laughing before they even reached my child's ears.

"You are wearing white shoes?"
"We have dress rehearsal in theater today and they are part of my costume."
"Its after Labor Day. Can't you just take those and change? You can't wear white shoes after Labor Day."
"MOM! That rule doesn't count anymore."
"If you leave this house in those shoes your grandmother will turn over in her grave."

Alex was really confused. Her grandmother isn't dead. We were actually on our way to see her grandmother when I said this.

I didn't grow up with a grandmother. They both died before I was born. I don't know a whole lot about my mother's mother. I only know that she was beautiful. She could sew. She couldn't cook. She must be really flexible because she has been doing back flips in her grave my entire life. Its a good thing she didn't live to see ... well, everything.

LOL! I like to believe that my ancestors have evolved & now believe all the same things I do. I know it's not true, but I do worry a lot less about any grave shenanigans.

P.S. I don't even HAVE any white shoes except sandals & it's too cold to wear them after Labor Day - so I'm safe!

Too funny. I know they say the white after Labor Day rule doesn't apply anymore, but I have a hard time with it, too. =
