40 Days, in the Wilderness, with No Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups

The week before valentines there was a sale on candy at our local drug store. I told Alex she could pick out a bag of candy and I grabbed one too... my favorite, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Yum! I put both bags in the pantry. As the week went on I would steal a piece or two here and there. At the end of the week Alex asked if we could go buy some candy to go with the cards she was making for our family members. "Just give them the Reese's I bought." I told her. So she went and looked and there were FOUR pieces left. Yes, just four. How did that happen?

I decided I needed to give the Peanut Butter Cups up for Lent. I needed to officially end the madness... right after I finished off the peanut butter hearts Alex got for Valentines day. (Those are HEARTS not CUPS.) Okay, so after I ate those and a small bag of Reeses pieces I decided that I was on my way to gaining two hundred pounds and being too liberal with my interpretation of what it was I had given up. So No Reeses. This weekend Alex went to the store with my sister. Her Aunt let her pick out a "fun" cereal... guess which "fun cereal" she picked.

Oh yeah... Thankfully this particular version of the peanut buttery chocolate goodness just seems wrong and gross to me. Still, it makes me want to go out an buy just one little peanut butter cup. Or maybe its a classic case of once you give something up it starts to haunt your every waking moment.

And what does any of this have to do with Lent? Well you see, just like Jesus had to go suffer for 40 days in the Wilderness ... I have to survive for 40 days with no chocolate covered peanut butter like substance. Its a lot to endure I know, but somehow, with the grace and guidance of the Blessed Lord, I will overcome.

SIDE NOTE: I love how the peanut butter chocolate cereal, stuffed with preservatives and artificial flavors, is made with whole grain. Really General Mills? Really? How dumb do you think we are?

Oh, goodness, I wish you hadn't told me about those. :-) Reese's peanut butter cups are my Achilles heel. I LOVE them. Now I can eat them for breakfast too?

*sigh*

Oh, oh , but Capn' Crunch peanut butter was the best thing in the entire world when I was a kid...that I wasn't allowed to have, ever, because my grandmother was a registered dietician. But covet it, I did.

So I should tell you why I'm here...serendipity. Perfectly normal thing to say, right? No I just stumbled across you at The Bug's blog...but it was your avatar that caught my eye. I not only like Hopper, and have that print over my mantle, I had literally just been telling someone on the blogs about that earlier today.

I took it as a sign that I should come and say "Hello." and then I noticed that you're known to Jo too...and like I said, serendipity, fortuitous coincidences for us all.

In other news, as I went to grab my mouse to scroll down, I seized hold of my cell phone instead, and proceeded to sort of drive it around the desk for a moment or two, before realizing that likely wouldn't work...so I don't know how pleased to meet me you should be.

Considering the fact that I just tried to answer my stapler when my phone rang, I'd say your in good company.
