$1,000,000,000

I wont bore the non Disney geeks out there, but I thought this was worth mentioning. Disney Pixar's Toy Story 3 has reached the $1 billion mark today - two days ahead of estimate. This makes The Walt Disney Studios the first production company to have two of its films reach the $1 billion mark in one year - the first being Alice and Wonderland. Of course, its kind of fitting that Disney would hold this distention since it was the first studio to ever have $1 billion film when Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest was released in 2006. If you want to read all of Disney's gloating you can see the official press release here.

I think its worth mentioning that this means Dick Cook is the first studio head to have given the green light to three films that would go on to make the company he worked for $1 billion in box office returns alone. Pretty amazing when you consider how off the movie studios of Hollywood have been in recent years.

If you followed the link, you might be wondering why you don't see Dick Cook mentioned in the press release. Well, that would be because Bob Igar, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, fired Cook earlier this year for reasons unknown to anyone with a brain. I think there some pretty good life lessons in all of this.

Side Note: I really liked Toy Story 3. It was the best ending to a trilogy that I have ever seen. I also thoroughly enjoyed Alice in Wonderland. The story was perfect. I can't think of a single thing I would have changed about it. And the Last Pirates movie? Well, the second one was so bad, I never bothered to see the third so I have no idea.

Update: Apperently I have seen Dead Man's Chest. Apperently that's the second pirate's movie, not the third. I wouldn't mention it at all except well, Alex's Aunt Bea has called me out on it so its only right that I fess up. I still say it wasn't that great.

I loved Toy Story 3 and also Alice in Wonderland, and I think it's brilliant that they were in 3-D. Whatever did we do without 3-D?

So far the best movies this year have come from Disney.

Dana - I think if I had seen Dead Man's Chest at home and not paid $10 to see it I would have liked it for more what it is.

Jo - I like 3D when its used correctly in a way that inhances the story. I think far too many movies have had 3D taked on as a money making after thought, but Alice espically is a good example of 3D used well.
