A Celebration of Life and Race for a Cure

Earlier this year my friend Becky passed away after a 15 year battle with breast cancer. Which I wrote about here.

For the past five years it had become a little tradition to walk with Becky and her sister Christy in the annual Susan G. Koman Race for the Cure. Last year was the first time Becky was unable to walk with us. This year, I will be joining Chirsty and her family at the walk to celebrate Becky's life.

One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. The Susan G. Komen Foundation and their local affiliates fund vital breast cancer education, screening and treatment programs in local communities as well as supporting the national search for a cure.

Rather than ask for donations in my name, I'm asking friends if they would pledge their support and contributions to Christy's walk. This was a hard year for her as she and Becky were really close. Christy almost decided not to walk this year because she is afraid of just how painful it will be. My goal in all of this is just to shower Christy and her family in love and support. If you would like to make a donation, you can do so online by simply clicking the photo of Becky on my side bar. Even if you are unable to make a monetary donation, please keep us in your prayers on the day of the race, October 2, 2010. I know that will be a bitter sweet day for Becky's family and friends.

Yours Truly,

Katy

Katy - I'm so sorry for your loss. I have had friends and family lose the same battle. It's painful to watch people we love die that way. I'll be praying for Becky's family, and for you too, as you walk this year's race. What a wonderful tribute to your friend!

I'm sorry to hear about Becky. My Mom always participates in a cancer walk each year, and last year was particularly tough for her because her friend had recently passed away. Stay strong!

1 in 8 is such a high number. How can it be so high?
